Travel Town Locomotive Pavilion
Completion: 2002
Griffith Park, Los Angeles, California

In the spirit of America's historic train sheds, the firm has designed a 300-foot long, steel-trussed, open-bay structure to cover and protect Travel Town's historic train collection. Covering 400 acres, Griffith Park is one of the largest urban green spaces in the United States. Guided by the challenge of revitalizing a well-used and beloved attraction and influenced by Europe's historic train sheds from the turn of the century, the design of Levin's pavilion features multiple roof pitches reaching 50 feet in the air, providing an instantly recognizable identity for the museum and park.

Dynamic and expansive, the pavilion will create a sense of place and identity for Travel Town, enabling and encouraging continuing public access. Functionally, the large pavilion also will support the conservation and restoration work that is a regular task of the facility.
