Levin & Associates Awarded National Center for the Preservation of Democracy Project

March 06, 2002

Levin & Associates, the architecture and urban planning firm, was recently awarded the National Center for the Preservation of Democracy project. The project consists of renovation of the historic Nishi Hongwanji Temple and a proposed 14,000 s.f. addition.

The National Center for the Preservation of Democracy, a project affiliated with the Japanese-American National Museum in Los Angeles, seeks to inspire and educate all people to live by democratic principles. The Center's purpose is to examine the rights and freedoms of all Americans through the lessons learned from the Japanese-American experience, focusing on the Japanese-American internment during World War II, military service and redress as a "case study" in democracy.

To espouse the mission and form of the National Center, The Planning Report interviews Irene Hirano, President of the Japanese American National Museum and Brenda Levin, Principal of Levin & Associates Architects.
